Eager Believer

I am currently a contributor for an as-of-yet-unpublished publication called Ferocious Graphics Quarterly. The guy running the show is an old acquaintance of mine who is an amazing artist and a very cool guy. The problem is that we have quite a long history of failure between the two of us as far as collaborative efforts go and I'm really hoping this one won't turn out the same way.

I have done as much as I can up to this point. I have written my piece and sent it to him and even sent a few queries, gently prompting him to get to work or, at the very least, communicate with me in some way. He seems to be on top of things, but the lack of communication makes me feel like he has nothing to communicate, which is kind of bad when you're collaborating with a person.

The up side of all of this, and it will remain an upside, in my opinion, even if "Ferocious Graphics Quarterly" becomes "Ferocious Graphics That One Time, Almost," is that I met and had the opportunity to work with, via e-mail, an amazing comic book artist named Aaron Minier. I sent him part of a story I am working on and he drew up a few character sketches, which were shockingly accurate portrayals of people who have only ever existed in my head (they have LOTS of company), and he sent me a drawing and asked if I would write a brief piece to go with it. My first ever successful artistic collaboration.

Anyway, Ferocious is supposed to go to press in a week or so and I have no idea how anything is progressing. It makes me a little frustrated, but I'm prepared for whatever happens... unless, of course, the thing actually goes to press and I find a hard copy of my work sitting in my hands. I believe, under those circumstances, I could be excused for pooping myself.

Thank you,
Batt Meers
