We are a one-car family. This is rarely a problem. Tonight, it was a problem. And while it was being a problem, I swore to myself that I was going out immediately and buying a five-hundred dollar beater just to have as a back-up for the next time it's a problem. But right now it isn't a problem and I have no desire to buy a five-hundred dollar beater. Where would we put it?
I often forget about things until I need them, like extra cars or peanut butter. My mind just doesn't work that way. My wife, on the other hand, has a mental list of everything in the world. She puts little mental check-marks next to the things we are out of. She takes very good care of our family. She knows how many loads of laundry are currently dirty and scattered throughout the house. She knows how many bananas we will need between now and Saturday. She knows what paperwork needs to be filled out for Jack to apply for grant money for college and when it is due (in, like, twelve years). I know what's going on with Lost. That used to count for something, until Betsy stopped watching, now I have to think of some other way to make myself useful.
Although, I did change that tire a couple of weeks ago. Go me.
Thank you,
Matt Beers
