I'm sew cool.

I have this black hooded sweatshirt that I've had for years. The pull-string on the hood is missing, one of the pockets is peeling off, and the thumb holes I cut oh-so long ago have sort of evolved into flappy shreds of sleeve. I loved it too much to throw it out, but one afternoon my beloved sweatshirt suffered a fatal injury. The zipper-pull came off. Not something I can abide. I'm shallow like that.

So, instead of throwing it out I'm recycling it as pillows for my kids. The hood was very nice and double-layered, so that is going to be one pillow all on its own. The sleeves will each become pillows also and the body... I might use it as stuffing. But my cleverestest idea was to take the waist-band, which was very much intact, and cut it off separately and stitch one end shut. I then turned it inside-out and stuffed it with some cotton batting I pulled from an old chair. A few buttons later and, voila! I've got a very lovely snake named Carlossssss.

That's what I did today.

Thank you,
Matt Beers
