Four years ago Betsy and I planted a Japanese Maple in our backyard. I named it Samurai. It was going to be glorious. But...
I've suspected for quite some time that ol' Samurai wasn't doing too well. My suspicions were confirmed today when I gave him a gentle shake and he kinda sorta came right out of the ground. There were no roots. It would appear that we've had a corpse in our backyard for about a year. I'm going to turn it into a walking stick, which is not meant to imply that I'm going to start walking.
Actually, most of the landscaping in our backyard is struggling. The burning bushes aren't growing, the spirea is looking rather haggard, the nameless decorative grass that we planted in the corner just sort of... died. The day lilies, lilies, Hostas, and privets are doing very well, however, so I have suggested we plant a ton of those and let them spread. Betsy has suggested we consult a professional.
Thank you,
Matt Beers
